Kinematics
Initial Speed
Speed is a measurment of the distance of a journey with respect to the time it takes to travel that journey. The initial speed of the ball in my trials was determined by using the average distance and time calculations. The speed is measured in meters per second.
The initial speed of the ball is based right upon impact of the racket and the ball. My calculation of the initial velocity is shown on the right.
Acceleration
Commonly, when objects are in motion, they are often speeding up or slowing down. Acceleration describes and represents all instances in which the object is changing speed. It is measured in meterse per second squared.
In my calculation of the tennis ball's acceleration to the left, I calculated for the acceleration just upon impact on the racket. Thus the initial speed in this instance is zero.
Final Speed
Speed is a measurment of the distance of a journey with respect to the time it takes to travel that journey. The final velocity of the ball, different from the initial is based upon the speed at the end of the journey, or in this instance, at the moment upon landing. The final velocity in my expirement is when the ball is at it's fastest, and is determined using the initial velocity, acceleration, and total distance of the ball's journey.
The final velocity is also measured in meters per second My calculation of final speed is shown on the right.
Angle of Shot
In order to determine the angle of my shot I had to find the height at which the ball was impacted (1m), as well as the distance between the ball and I. Then using SOH CAH TOA, I used the second function TAN (opposite over adjacent) to identify the angle.
On the left is my calculations to solve for the anlge of my shot.
